SIMSBURY ARTISTS OPEN THEIR STUDIOS TO THE PUBLIC
Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11, 2010 from 10am - 4pm, fifteen Simsbury artists are opening their studios to the public free of charge. This is a unique opportunity to see a variety of styles and art forms including pottery, paintings and jewelry and meet the individual artists in their studios where inspirations become works of art.
Visitors will be able to purchase local art directly from the artists during this special event. The artists will be able to answer questions about their creative process and inspirations. All ages are welcome. However, some studios may not be handicapped accessible.
The Simsbury Historical Society, located at 800 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury, will be serving as a single venue for the weekend event; artwork will be displayed in the Meeting House on Hopmeadow Street and the Ellsworth Visitors Center on Phelps Lane. Maps to the artists’ studios, refreshments and additional information will also be available. Visitors to the Historical Society are welcome to bring picnic lunches, to explore the grounds and gardens, and to visit the historic buildings which will all be open and staffed for self-touring. All visitors will enjoy free admission for the two-day event; the Society grounds and buildings will be open extended hours, from 10am-4pm, both Saturday and Sunday. Parking is available at the Ellsworth Visitors Center, accessed from Phelps Lane.
Directional signs with yellow and blue brushes will be located throughout Simsbury during the weekend of the event to help visitors locate the studios. Additional information, including examples of artists' works, printable maps and further updates, is also available at the Simsbury Open Studios website, www.simsburyartists.org or by calling 860-658-2508.
