Simsbury Historical Society Research Policy
The Simsbury Historical Society Archive includes an impressive collection of primary source materials that relate to early settlements in Connecticut, the founding of Simsbury, and the development of the surrounding region. Documents and artifacts include account books, personal papers, court records, tax lists, maps, and more than 600 photographs of mid-nineteenth through early twentieth century residents, architecture, farms and businesses. Secondary sources are particularly strong in Connecticut, family and regional history, but also include published works on historic interiors, political processes, and social and military history. The Archive is equipped with a photocopier and a public-use computer with internet access. Contact the Archive at 860-658-2500 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or to arrange a visit.

Research requests are a benefit of Society membership. The staff is happy to assist with straight-forward requests, but cannot dedicate unlimited hours to individual requests for original research. We are happy to discuss fee-based projects, but can undertake such research pending staff availability. Research requests and contracts guarantee staff time; they do not guarantee answers. The staff will make every effort to discuss projects and the potential for their success, but cannot predict that the information sought for will be found in our Archive.
