Observance of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday
Held in partnership with other Simsbury community groups. On January 20, 2025, Simsbury will commemorate civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in a special program at First Church of Christ in Simsbury. The ceremony will celebrate Dr. King’s life and recognize his time in Simsbury.
Free of charge. No advance registration required.

Observance of Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday
Attend “From the Declaration to Gettysburg”, a portrayal of Lincoln’s delivery of historic addresses by Howard Wright in authentic period attire. Mr. Wright is a life member of the Association of Lincoln Presenters, an organization dedicated to the serious interpretation of Abraham Lincoln, and has been performing as the 16th president since 2005.
Free of charge for members. $10 at the door for non-members. Students and children free.

The Jackson Family of Simsbury, Connecticut
In this presentation, John Mills, president and founder of the Alex Breanne Corporation, will focus on the lives and family of Peter and Esther Jackson, both buried in Simsbury Cemetery in the town center. Peter is said to have been enslaved in Bermuda, traded for a Native American enslaved man, and brought to Simsbury. He died in 1819. Esther lived to be 98 years old, leaving behind a documented historical legacy upon her death in 1857. Learn about their extended families and what became of their descendants, including seven grandsons who served in the Civil War.

Irish Tavern Night
Save the date! Irish Tavern Night is a lively evening of dining and music in the historic Phelps Tavern at the Simsbury Historical Society. Back by popular demand, this event includes light apps, a corned beef and cabbage dinner, soft drinks, dessert, and coffee/tea. BYOB.
Admission fee is $60 per person. Space is limited. Pre-register soon to reserve your spot!

The Farmington River Archeology Project: 12,000 Years of Native History
Save the date! Kenneth L. Feder, professor emeritus of anthropology at Central Connecticut State University and author of several books, is the founder and director of the Farmington River Archeology Project. He and his crew have revealed remains of the villages, hunting encampments, and quarries used by inhabitants of the Farmington River Valley 12,000 years ago. This presentation is co-sponsored and funded by the Lower Farmington River and Salmon Brook Wild and Scenic Committee.
