The Simsbury Historical Society is the recent recipient of two grants totaling $12,000 from the Enterprise Mobility Foundation™. Funds will be used to help restore the historical society’s reproduction 17th-century Simsbury Meeting House and develop new programs that promote Simsbury’s rich and diverse history and build community pride.
A grant of $7,500 was awarded by the Enterprise Mobility Foundation, on behalf of the Hartford/Rhode Island group, as part of the Jack Taylor Founding Values Award. Initiated in 2003, the award honors Enterprise Mobility teams that embody the organization’s founding values. Awardees receive a grant from the Enterprise Mobility Foundation to be used to advance nonprofits in their local communities.
In addition, as part of Enterprise Mobility’s Grants Program, Simsbury Historical Society received a second grant of $4,500 from the Enterprise Mobility Foundation. This grant was nominated by an Enterprise Mobility team member.
“We are grateful to the Enterprise Mobility Foundation and to the Enterprise Mobility team members who recommended our organization for these grants,” stated Jane Spatcher McAlpine, executive director of the Simsbury Historical Society. “We’re excited about the opportunity to develop and deliver engaging, inclusive programs that serve our diverse community and build community pride with the funds received.”
The reproduction Meeting House, an essential structure in the Simsbury Historical Society’s delivery of programming, was constructed in 1970 to commemorate Simsbury’s then 300th anniversary. Grant monies will fund partial restoration of the landmark building. When fully restored, the structure is expected to meet community needs and withstand environmental impact for another 40-50 years.
